The up-streamface is vertical and the down-stream face curved of ogee form; thelower part of the down-stream face Is curved to a radius of 31 ft.;the central portion has a batter of 4^in. to the foot, and the upperportion has a radius of 20 ft. The two faces and lop were built ofred granite and the interior of hard limestone rubble laid in port-land cement. The power house was budt on ilic rock ledges just below theeast end of the dam and was 198 x S4 ft.; on the river side the wallswere 112 ft. high and on the land side 32 ft. The equipment com-prised Victor wheels, made by the Stillwell-Biercc & Smilh-VaileCo., aggregating 2,400 h. p., pumps of 8,000,000 gallons capacity)ur J4 hours, and electric generators of 500 h. p. capacity. The building of the dam by raising the water level 60 ft. formeda lake covering over 1.800 acres, and between 20 and 25 miles long,which was named Lake McDonald, after the mayor, Mr. JohnMcDonald.

No.6 is a car of the Austin Rapid Transit Ry. standing near First St.bridge (about 4 miles from the danO, where it was when powerwas shut oflf. Mr. Scovill states that it was expected that the city would havewater by May 15
