Text Appearing Before Image: Ward, also secretary,class leader and 1st counselor in the14th Ward M. I. A., acted as secretaryin the Salt Lake Stake M. I. A., andserved as secretary to the City Engi-neer, secretary-treasurer of the Boardof Canal presidents and assistant in-structor on the Red Cross Board. Shewas called to the General Board of theY. L. M. I. A. in 1920. FOX, Ruth May, general presidentof the Young Womens Mutual Im-provement Association, was born Nov.16, 1853, in Westbury, Wilshire, Eng-land, the daughter of James May andMary Ann Harding. She emigratedto America in 1865 and crossed theplains in 1867 by ox-team in Capt.Leonard Rices Company, which wasoutfitted at North Platte. Her firstposition in the Church was SundaySchool teacher in the 14th Ward, SaltLake City, at the age of 17. Sincethen she has worked in the Church almost continuously. When the Pri-mary Association was first organizedin the 14th Ward she served as coun-selor to Clara C. Cannon. Later, shebecame president, serving for 19 years.

Text Appearing After Image: From 1895 to 1904 she was presidentof the 14th Ward Y. L. M. I. A. In1898 she was called as an aid to theGeneral Board, was chosen as firstcounselor to Pres. Martha H. Tingeyand in March, 1929, became generalpresident, succeeding Sister Tingey.She served as a missionary on TempleSquare for 25 years. Sister Fox is themother of twelve children, viz., JesseMay, Eliza May (deceased), GeorgeJames, Ruth Clare (Taylor), FeramorzYoung, Hyrum Lester, Esther Vida(Clawson), Frank Harding, LucyBeryl (Evenson), Leonard Grant, Flor-ence (Mackay), and Emeline Blanche(deceased). FREEZE, Lillie (Lelia) Tuckett, a member of the General Board of theY. W. M. I. A., was born in Salt Lake 260 LATTER-DAY SAINT City, Utah, the daughter of HenryTuckett and Mercel E. Westwood. Shewent to St. George in 1861, but laterreturned to Salt Lake City, was activein the various auxiliary organizationsof the nth Ward, especially in theRetrenchment Association, and editedthe nth Ward Star.
