Square; firmerchisel; brad-awl ; screw-driver. The general method of working is the same as in commondove-tailing, Ex. No. 58; but the cutting-gauge requiressetting twice instead of once. It is first set to two-thirds of the thickness of the pin-piece (a), and usedacross the end of this piece, and then across the sidesand edges of the socket-piece (5). Then it is alteredand set to the thickness of the socket-piece, and markedacross the inside face of {a). After gauging, the pinsare set out with the bevel and marking-point and square,and cut out with the dove-tail saw and firmer chisel.As the wood is not cut quite through, as in commondove-tailing, perpendicular chiseUiag has to be resortedto with wood fi:xed endways up in the bench vice (seeEx.
