English: Ilton Castle Farm The farm buildings glimpsed from above while attempting to follow Malborough Footpath 20 up the hill. Lured by what looked like a stile, I am on the wrong side of the field. The campsite can be seen beyond the farm. The site of Ilton Castle lies further southwest up the valley: "Earthwork remains of a deserted medieval settlement, a quadrangular castle, licensed to crenellate granted to John Cheureston in 1335, an associated garden and two fishponds" http://homepage.mac.com/philipdavis/English%20sites/864.html . |
