This species, lately acquired from New Holland, is from ten to eleveninches in length. The general colour of the upper parts is umber-brown,paler upon the neck and back of the head, and gradually running in aband over the crown, and through the cheek and auriculars along the baseof the upper mandible. On each side of this there is a parallel band ofwhite, ending upon the sides of the head, forming three distinct longitu-dinal stripes, from which M. Temminck derives his trivial name. Thethroat and breast are white ; the belly, vent, sides, and under sides of thewings pale reddish-brown or orange, tinged with umber-brown; the tail isnearly black, and, with the exception of the centre feathers, h
