nt founded by John Smith, in 1609.The steamer reaches Richmond about 6.30 oclock P. M.Returning, the steamer leaves Richmond every Monday,Wednesday, and Friday at 7 .00 oclock A. M. Another pleasant all-day trip is that afforded by the O. D.S. S. river line steamers from Norfolk or Portsmouth, up theYork River to Yorktown. On this trip, steamers touch at OldPoint, pass the Rip Raps (Fort Wool), giving the visitor anexcellent view of the Jamestown Exposition grounds, andassembled navies on Hampton Roads, and an enjoyable ride upChesapeake Bay and York River for twenty miles, until York-town is reached. The steamer lays at Yorktown for severalhours, thus allowing tourists ample time in which to visitCornwallis Cave*, headquarters of Lord Cornwallis before hissurrender to the Continental Army. A monument marks theexact spot of his surrender*, and another is dedicated to thesoldiers, who, commanded by George Washington, with theassistance of the French, under Lafayette and Rochambeau, won

Other points of interest at Yorktownare the old Custom House, the first ever opened in the UnitedStates, and the Nelson House, upon which Thomas Nelson, whowas in Washingtons army, urged the Continentals to fire,offering a reward for each shot that hit the mark, knowing thatthe British officers were housed in his residence. The old Moore House on Temple Farm is also a point ofinterest, as there may be seen the ruins of an old church, built in1660. Just at the mouth of York River is where Rochambeausfleet lay during the siege of Yorktown. The steamer leavesYorktown on its return trip in ample time to land the visitorat Norfolk at 7.00 P. M.
