Text Appearing Before Image:
Point, Huntersville, and Sewells Point, located closely around, will within a veryshort time unite with Norfolk and Portsmouth into GreaterNorfolk. No more admirable location for a great city can be found any-where along the Atlantic Coast, and the coming of GreaterNorfolk, the Metropolis of the South, is as inevitable as therising of the sun toward which the Eastern Gateway of theUnited States opens. Modern business houses have replaced the structures ofcolonial and ante-bellum days. Palatial hotels have arisen as ifby magic. Immense manufacturing plants, great bankinginstitutions, railway systems, and steamship lines concentratedhere indicate the wonderful progress of Norfolk and Portsmouthalong commercial, manufacturing, and agricultural lines. Newresidential sections are quickly becoming densely populated.Beautiful churches point their spires heavenward, and schoolswith unsurpassed facilities evidence the rapid growth andtransformation of Norfolk and Portsmouth into one great city.

Here its waters intermingle with those of Chesa-peake Bay, a vast body of water almost entirely landlocked byCape Charles and Cape Henry, a natural ocean gateway, throughwhich the exports of the central East, Southeast, and Southmake their exit, and the imports of products from all the othergreat nations may make their entrance into this country. Located midway between the Gulf of St. Lawrence and theGulf of Mexico, this harbor is the most magnificent along theAtlantic Seaboard,
