BANK OF MONTREAL. Canada has 27 chartered banks, nine of these have theirhead offices in Toronto. The city possesses many beautifulbanking houses. Amongst these may be mentioned theBank of Montreal, Yonge and Front Streets; the TradersBank, on Yonge, near King; the Dominion Bank, Yongeand King; the Bank of Commerce, the Royal Bank, theUnion Bank, the Bank of Toronto, the Standard Bank, andthe Bank of Nova Scotia, King Street. Dozens of beautifulbranch banks occupy prominent comers in the city. Attention may be called to a contrast in the buildingpolicy of two prominent banks. The Bank of Montreal hasa modern building of one storey on the valuable corner ofYonge and Front, vehile a little farther up the formerstreet is the highest building in Canada, the new fifteen-storey building of the Traders Bank. Cuts of both build-ings are given herein. 33
