MICHAELS CATHEDBAL. On Bond Street, comer of Shuter, is a fine example ofgothic architecture. The interior is beautifully decorated,and it contains many handsome windows, notably one im-ported from France many years ago, representing the Cru-cifixion, which is back of the main altar, and was madeby a celebrated artist name Thevenot. It also contains amagnificent organ with a peculiarly rich tone, due to theage of the pedal pipes, which were a portion of the old 43 organ now replaced. This church, like Catholic churchesthroughout the world, is open all day for prayer and medi-tation. It is the building on the left in picture. METROPOLITAN CHURCH. This fine church, of white brick, with cut stone dress-ings, stands in handsome grounds on Queen Street East,corner of Church. At the main front looking southward

GROUP OF CHURCHES. is a massive and stately tower. The organ recently rebuilt,the gift of a wealthy lady, is one of the largest on thecontinent. The building on the right of the picture is theMetropolitan. ST. JAMES CATHEDRAL. Is situated on an historic spot at the corner of King andChurch Streets. It has a seating capacity of over 2,000,and its tower and spire, which reach to a height of 306feet, may be seen for miles away on the lake. The towercontains a fine clock, with very inadequate dials, and achime of eight bells. 44 GOVERNMENT HOUSE. The temporary residence of the Lieutenant-Governor,Sir J, M. Gibson, is on College Street West, pending theerection of a new residence in Rosedale, a beautiful loca-tion in the north-east part of the City.
