Text Appearing Before Image:
SPRING The foreground of the picture is occupied by a quiet riverflowing placidly by marshy hanks fringed by bushy willows.Between the branches of the trees the while walls and blueroots of a small village appear stretching across the picturefrom right to left. Beyond the houses the ground rises, slop-ing gently to the ridge of a long, low hill, which merges grad-ually into the sky line and disappears in the distance. Thetime is early Spring, the trees are still devoid of foliage, butthe twigs are thick with the new buds about to burst into leaf. The skv is a tender blue, hidden behind a veil of misty cloud, and the hills are clothing themselves in a mantle of tendergreen, which finds an admirable foil in the browns and purplesleft by departing Winter. The color scheme, tender and sub-dued, is repeated in the mirror-like surface of the still water, and the whole picture breathes an air of peace and stillness. Signed at the lower left, Claodi Momr. TEMPS GUIS On the light the serrated escarpment of the dills stands outbold against the sunlight, diminishing in rapid perspective tothe middle distance, where a fold of the land indicates thepresence of a little valley. Beyond the terrain rises abruptlyinto a hold foreland, curving gently to the left, its harsh out-lines softened by a veil of mist which shrouds its distant form.A narrow strip of sand is washed by the foam of the channelrolling inshore in serried breakers. The sun is rapidly dis-persing the mist and shines upon the nearer rocks, bringingout vividly their play of wondrous colors. The rising vaporhides the blue of the sky behind a transparent veil and thelight is tender and diffused. Sigurd at the hirer right, Ci.aidk Moxkt, Height, <■! 1 inches! length, 38$? inelies.
