should bepicked four times daily, and scavenger rolls as often as necessary.The spindles should be taken from the frame twice a year, thedirty oil removed and all parts of the spindle thoroughly cleanedbefore refitting in frame. All remaining parts of frame shouldhave daily brushings, excepting the back weights where onebrushing a week would be sufficient. OILING. The loose pulley, cylinder bearings, head end gearing andtop front rolls should be oiled daily ; the steel roll bearings twicea day ; for the back and middle top roll end bearings and buildermotion weekly oiling will be sufficient; saddle bearings twice aweek. The spindles should be oiled every two weeks, althoughit would not be amiss to put in a little fresh oil every week. Bobbins. Badly fitting bobbins and poor oil are the causes of consider-able trouble, therefore the greatest care should be exercised inthe selection of both, otherwise good and satisfactory resultscannot be obtained. IMPROVED SPOOLER. SpoolerSpindle The accompanying cut shows clearly the general features ofconstruction of our Improved Spooler. The frame is of asubstantial and pleasing design, the end legsbeing connected together by four rigid ironbars, or girts, supported at frequent intervalsby heavy sampsons. The two top bars serveto hold the spindle bolsters, thus furnishinga solid foundation, with a minimum amount ofvibration for the spindles at any economicalspeed. The spindles are as light as is con-sistent with the work demanded of them. Thebolster case is constructed with a chamberholding a generous supply of oil, so that oilingis required not more than once a month. Thebolsters are provided with the well-knownWoodmancy oil hole cap and spindle retainer. In banding the spindles, one band drives two spindles, one on each side of theframe. To avoid cross banding at the end ofthe cylinder, two spindles, one on each sideof the frame, have double whirls and usetwo bands. The frames are built to
