Summary

[edit]
Description
English: A once familiar but long-vanished scene alongside the narrow-gauge railways of the DDR. Beneath the standard gauge wagons are converter bogies . The wagons were shunted onto them in special dual gauge pits at Nordhausen (1000mm and normal gauge) and then given a piggy back ride north to Ilfeld. An IFA W50 truck and trailer is being loaded with cement from the Deutsche Reichsbahn wagons. Behind is an IFA multicar. A power station at Silberhuette required coal wagons on converter bogies to blast up to Stiege and traverse a loop to get onto the Selketalbahn along which the plant was situated. Naturally, this business came to a swift end in the 1990s. LP-86-56 the registration of the IFA, representing Bezirk Erfurt, also on the Multicar behind.
