Description

A Igreja de Santa Maria de Alcáçova está localizada próximo do muro interior do castelo, para a parte sul. É de invocação a Nossa Senhora da Assunção. Foi mandada edificar em 1090, pelo Presbítero Vermudo, por ordem do Conde D. Sesnando. Foi reedificada definitivamente no primeiro quartel do século XVI, obra atribuída ao arquitecto Francisco Pires, sob a ordem do bispo-conde D. Jorge de Almeida.

É de composição estrutural simples, com três naves de cinco tramos e três capelas absidais. Nave central levantada, sem janelas acima das arcadas. Cabeceira de composição complexa: arcos abertos entre as capelas laterais e a mor, em plano, dão a aparência de um transepto.

Foi mandada edificar em 1090, pelo Presbítero Vermudo (ele próprio afirmou que a ergueu desde os alicerces), por ordem do Conde D. Sesnando, com a condição de metade das rendas dela ficarem pertencendo à Sé de Coimbra, no tempo do Bispo D. Crescónio. Depois de concluída a igreja, foi lavrada a escritura de doação dessa metade está datada de 24 de Dezembro de 1095. <a href="https://montemor_a_mexer.blogs.sapo.pt/5400.html">montemor_a_mexer.blogs.sapo.pt/5400.html</a>
