Description

A Igreja de Santa Ana (Furnas) é um templo cristão português localizado na freguesia das Furnas, concelho de Vila da Povoação, ilha de São Miguel, arquipélago dos Açores.

Este templo encontra-se entre os mais antigos da ilha de São Miguel dedicado à evocação de Santa Ana, foi edificado no local onde antes existia uma ermida dedicada à evocação de Nossa Senhora da Consolação, que foi o primeiro templo do Vale das Furnas e que se terá feito parte de um convento, fundado por padres eremitas. Tanto a ermida como o convento foram destruídos por uma erupção ocorrida em 1630.

O Actual templo foi construído em 1760 por iniciativa do padre Cósme de Pimentel após a partida da ilha de São Miguel dos frades jesuítas, tendo evocado a mãe de Nossa Senhora, mãe de Jesus, Santa Anna.
