As origens deste templo remontam, provavelmente, ao séc. XV. No entanto, só nos princípios do século seguinte surgem as primeiras referências documentais, referindo o Visitador da Ordem de Santiago em 1518 “que os fregueses e moradores da dita Igreja a fizeram e edificaram de novo”. Em 1554, foi reedificada, passando a ter três naves e cinco tramos, com arcarias plenas assentes em colunas de cantaria com capitéis toscanos. O terramoto de 1755 causou-lhe danos consideráveis. Uma nova campanha de obras ocorreu em 1799, acrescentando-se mais um tramo e construindo-se um novo frontispício. Em 1875, efectuou-se o último acrescentamento deste templo. Desta vez destruiu-se a capela-mor levantando-se um largo transepto, uma nova ousia, sacristia e diversas arrecadações. O portal lateral de acesso ao exterior, situado no lado do evangelho, é de calcário e destaca-se o desenho da moldura, ao gosto tardo barroco com lacrimais nas ombreiras e verga arqueada, rematada por um friso interrompido, é o testemunho da campanha executada após o terramoto de 1755. De realçar o eixo marcado pelo portal de entrada, pelo janelão com remate triangular e por um expressivo frontão que se insere no barroco tardio, onde pontuam, entre outros elementos, as urnas funerárias. No baptistério encontra-se um retábulo em mármore, que segue o formulário neoclássico. Trata-se de um exemplar de grande qualidade e pouco frequente na região algarvia, pois são raros os retábulos em mármore. Na capela-mor estão colocadas quatro telas seiscentistas pintadas, numa delas está representada a Santíssima Trindade. Digno de nota são três esculturas que representam o arcanjo São Miguel, São Libório e Santa Eulália, todas seiscentistas.
