Summary

[edit]
Description

This Church is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary, it holds the rank of archpriest. Here one will find various styles such as Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance. Still seen nowadays, at its entrance, there is the stone tomb or casket which contained the remains of one of the captains who took part in the re-conquest of the city to the moors, Don Lope Vaillo de Calderón. In 1945 there was opened a new altar, whose altarpieces are 19 paintings by the artist José Segrelles.

The Chapel dedicated to the Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception is in the right part with separate door to the main facade falls in addition to internal communication. On another chapel within the church there is preserved an image of Solitude by artist Mariano Benlliure. There is also a recumbent Jesus Christ by the same author funded by the local Textile Industry Association in 1942.

Its bell tower, 72 meters high, is the tallest of Valencia and the second highest in Spain.

All the wooden works found in this church were designed and manufactured in 1945 by Bautista Barbera, grandfather of this photograph's author.
