| Description |
English: Idle Working Men's Club. The wonderfully named Idle Working Men's Club on the corner of High Street and Walter Street, Idle. People all over the world (including pop singer Michael Jackson apparently) have applied for affiliate membership to the club, attracted by the name and the club's badge of a man leaning on a shovel. Opened in 1928 by sewage workers who were unable to get a drink down the pub after the evening shift, Idle W.M.C. also claims to have been the first such club to grant full membership to women as well as men. |
