experts and prospectors thegreat wealth which lay hidden in the mountains and valleysbecame known abroad, immigration soon demanded a terri-torial government, and the Territory of Idaho was createdfrom parts of Washington, Dakota and Nebraska, by actof Congress passed March 13, 1863. In reorganizing theterritories in 1868, Montana was wholly created out of Idahoand also a large part of Wyoming; Idaho retaining its presentlimits. As Idahos unlimited mineral resources and the valueof her agricultural lands became developed and known abroad,her population increased with a steady growth. Its peo-ple, realizing the importance of a state government, applied toCongress for admission to the Union. In pursuance to an actof Congress the peoples representatives met in conventionand submitted a constitution, which was ratified by the peopleat an election, and by proclamation of President HarrisonIdaho was declared a state under the constitution of theUnited States. IDAHO=THE GEM OF THE MOUNTAINS.
