Deutsch: Vordere Inschrift des „Ida-Denkmal[s]“, das im Jahre 1854 durch Herzog Berhard II. zum Dank an seine ältere Schwester Ida von Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach (geb. von Sachsen-Meiningen) in einem Wald bei Bad Liebenstein in Thüringen errichtet wurde. Die Inschrift (bzw. der sog. ‚Sinnspruch‘, der lt. der Website der Stadt aus dem Gedichtzyklus Erinnerung und Hoffnung von Karl Foerster stammt) lautet „Was vergangen, [¶] kehrt nicht wieder, [¶] Aber ging es [¶] leuchtend nieder, Leuchtet’s lange [¶] noch zurück“
English: Inscription at the front of the “Ida Monument”, erected in 1854 by Duke Berhard II in gratitude to his elder sister Ida of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach (née of Saxe-Meiningen) in a forest near Bad Liebenstein in Thuringia (Germany). The inscription (or the so-called ‘motto’, which according to the website of the city originates from the poetry cycle Erinnerungen und Hoffnung (“Memories and Hope”) by Karl Foerster.) reads “Was vergangen, [¶] kehrt nicht wieder, [¶] Aber ging es [¶] leuchtend nieder, Leuchtet’s lange [¶] noch zurück” (“What is past [¶] does not return, [¶] But when it [¶] went down shining, it still shines back for a long time [¶]“).
