Id-Dragunara aka Coral Lagoon

| Description |
English: Id-Dragunara is a large and deep hole surrounded by high sides that completely shelter it from the open sea. Some geologists think that it was a large cave on the ground whose roof collapsed (so it has a shape like a large pot) and that, when the ground tilted, it became half submerged in the sea (source https://www.ilmiklem.com/l-ahrax-tal-mellieha/ ). Id-Dragunara is also known as Coral Lagoon. The sea inside it is crystal clear and deep. It may be accessed either by diviing (not for the faint hearted) or else by a small boat or kayak since there is a natural arch which connects it to the open sea. The photo show id-Dragunara at sunset, with the islands of Comino and Gozo in the far background. |
