Description |
Nederlands: 'Ick hoir toe den Capitain Vits'. Een eigenaar heeft hier zijn naam in het handschrift gezet. Vermoedelijk gaat het om Jacques Wijts (1579-1643), kapitein van het Staatse leger van 1606 tot 1624, een man die veel connecties had met de Oranjes. De potloodaantekening rechtsboven is het aanvraagnummer van het wapenboek. Het werd toegekend kort na de verwerving van het boek, in maart 2017. Met dit nummer kan het handschrift in de Koninklijke Bibliotheek worden aangevraagd. |

Nederlands: Dit wapenboek werd vermoedelijk gemaakt in opdracht voor graaf Engelbrecht II van Nassau (1451-1504). Het is mogelijk in bezit geweeest van van Willem van Oranje (Willem de Zwijger) (1533-1584) en Jacques Wijts (ca. 1579-1643). In 1898 maakte het deel uit van de verzameling van heraldiek schilder Otto Hupp (1859-1949).
English: This armorial was presumably commissioned by Engelbert II of Nassau (1451-1504). After him it was possibly owned by William I, Prince of Orange (William the Silent) (1533-1584) and Jacques Wijts (ca. 1579-1643). In 1898 the manuscripts is known to be in the library of the German graphical artist Otto Hupp. |
