Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Ice, Cloud and Land Elevation Satellite (ICESat) was designed to measure the mass balance of Earth’s ice sheets, the height of clouds and aerosols, and the topography of the land. The measurements were made by three lasers on the satellite's Geoscience Laser Altimeter System (GLAS) instrument (yellow). GLAS was the first laser-ranging (lidar) instrument for continuous global observations of Earth.
