Schwartz, F. Albert (1836-1906) | Fotografisches Atelier Das an der Wilhelmstraße 102 gelegene Palais (hinter den Kolonnaden) wird 1737-39 für den Baron Mathieu de Vernezobre de Laurieux erbaut, wechselt danach häufig den Besitzer und gelangt 1830 an den Prinzen Albrecht von Preußen, der es als Wohnsitz nutzt. 1830-32 baut Karl Friedrich Schinkel das Gebäude um und erhöht die zwei einen Vorplatz umsäumenden Flügelbauten. Hier sind Wohnungen und Arbeitsräume für die Dienerschaft und den Portier untergebracht. Zu den wichtigsten Veränderungen gehört die Neugestaltung der Straßenfront. An die Stelle eines ehemaligen Quergebäudes wird die hier sichtbare offene Säulengalerie aufgeführt. Über deren Toröffnungen gelangt man durch einen Ehrenhof mit Fontänenanlage zum Hauptportal des seitdem Prinz-Albrecht-Palais benannten Gebäudes. Von 1872 bis 1906 wohnt Albrecht, Prinz-Regent von Braunschweig, hier, 1939 verkauft die fürstliche Familie das Palais an den Fiskus. Ab 1934 hat der Sicherheitsdienst (SD) der SS hier seinen Dienstsitz. 1944 brennt das Gebäude aus, die Ruine wird 1949 gesprengt. Seit 1987 dokumentiert die "Topographie des Terrors" die Vergangenheit des Geländes.
