Description

Stamp of Italy for occupated areas of the former Hungary-Austrian monarchy; 1919; general issue; definitive stamp oif the Italian issue "Michetti - type I/III" from 1916 with three-lines overprint "20 /centesimi / di corona" (=Italian for "20 hundredth of a crown"); portrait of King Victor Emmanuel III of Italy with view to right after a painting of Francesco Paolo Michetti; drawing with visible star on the left collar; no point at "Cent"; stamp without watermark; upper inscription with inverted (negative) letters (white characters on colored background)
Excursus to the background: In Italian occupated territories of the former Hungarian-Austrian monarchy was not introduced the "Lire" as new currency, rather the old Austrian "Krone" (= crown = "corona") was kept as circulation currency. Italian money had no validity (with exception of Dalmatia in later time), so that the usable stamps became an overprint according to the nominal value in the local valid currency.
