Note:
This stamp was the first stamp of the Kingdom of Italy manufactured by recess printing in the private printery "Officina Calcografia Italiana" in Rome, because the state-owned "Officina Carte Valori" in Turin did not have a machine for intaglio printings. Engraved was this stamp by Robert Savage in the "American Bank Note Company" in New York (USA). There exist three main types of this stamp diversified by the portrait details and mainly by following parameters:
- - type I (1906): no watermark; perforation K 12; The stamp picture high is 25.0 mm.; The crown and cross in the upper right portion of the stamp are different from the other issues.; No left star on the collar is visibly, but rather a vertical line on the collar.
- - type II (1909/1917): Watermark Italy No. 1 (crown); perforation K 13:13½; The stamp picture high is 23.0 mm.; The crown and cross in the upper right portion of the stamp are different from the other issues.; Only an indistinct left star on the collar is visibly.
- - type III (1911): watermark Italy No. 1 (crown); perforation: K 13½:14; The stamp picture high is 24.0 mm.; The crown and cross in the upper right portion of the stamp are different from the other issues.; A left star on the collar is visibly. Also varieties without watermark and in perforation K 13:13½ are known.
- - The issue of 1916 has an overprint, mostly on type III.
Beside of this exist any characteristic differences in the printing of the "15" and at the "C" of "Cent".
