IOW-793F57 Medieval Annular buckle
Description
English: A complete Medieval cast copper-alloy annular buckle (c. 1350-c. 1400). The frame is circular in plan and oval in cross-section. It has an outer diameter of 34.3mm, a width of 4.5mm and a thickness of 2.7mm. The tapering pin is 'D'-shaped in cross-section, flat at the rear. It is 25.9mm in length and has a sub-circular loop that almost completely encloses the frame. The upper surface of the pin has a small transverse rib between the shaft and the loop. Outer diameter: 34.3. Weight: 8.56g. The frame of this buckle has a shiny mid-green patina and the pin is severely corroded. Similar buckles from London have been published and dated c. 1350-c. 1400 (Egan and Pritchard: 1991: 57, fig. 36).
