Title
IOW-45E9F1Post-Medieval Buckle
Description
English: An incomplete cast copper-alloy post-Medieval buckle (c. 1720-c. 1790).

The rectangular frame is slightly misshapen and has regular rectangular shaped openwork slots, two at each side and one at each outer edge. At the centre of each side there is lug on the underside of the frame containing a circular perforation for the missing spindle. Viewed from the side, the frame curves evenly downwards from the centre towards the outer edge.
This piece has an even shiny green patina. The spindle and pin are missing.

A similar buckle dated c. 1720-1790 has been published and is described as being in Artois style (Whitehead 1996: 107, ref: 684).
