Summary

[edit]
Description
English: IETT Tram Station - Ağa Camii (Istiklal Street in Istanbul). Until the trams were taken out of service in the 1960s and 70s, in Istanbul, the stops were of two different kinds: The non-obligatory-to-stop or "ihtiyari" (optional) ones like in this image; where the driver ("vatman") stopped the vehicle only if there were passengers who wished to leave the tram or get in; and the obligatory or "mecburi" (compulsory) stops where the tram had to stop anyway. For example, in Kadıköy, the tram stop at "Şebeke" (Electricity terminal) was optional, while the next one towards the end of the route, "Altıyol", was obligatory.
