Summary
[edit]DescriptionICare Centre - geograph.org.uk - 1606258.jpg |
English: ICare Centre. A stroke rehabilitation and support day care centre on Green Street Green High Street, housed in the former school.
The school was founded in 1851 by John Fox, proprietor of the nearby Oak Brewery (see 1162643), originally for the children of his employees. It became a Board School in the 1870s, although still with strong representation of the Fox family. As the area developed, overcrowding became a problem, and in 1908 a new school was built in Vine Road (see 1162644), which took the older children, with the original building becoming the Infant School. Following expansion of the Vine Road school in 1990, the old school was closed, leading to its current use. In the background is part of the Royal Oak pub (see 1603684). |
