Die Geschichte der IBM in Deutschland beginnt 1910 mit der Gründung der DEHOMAG (Deutsche Hollerith-Maschinen Gesellschaft mbH) in Berlin. 1949 wurde sie in IBM Deutschland GmbH umbenannt und nach Böblingen verlegt. Die Tabelliermaschine D 11, die ab 1935 gebaut wurde, war die erste deutsche Maschine dieser Art. Sie wurde zur Auswertung von Lochkarten verwendet und war das Herzstück vieler sogenannter Hollerith-Abteilungen, das die Karten einlas, zählte, rechnete und druckte. Die Maschine ist ein Meilenstein in der Entwicklung der Lochkartentechnik und wurde bis 1945 gebaut und zuletzt als IBM D11 Type 450, vertrieben.

Die Verkaufszahlen der D 11 bewegen sich insgesamt bei ca. 1.100 verkauften Exemplaren.
