Summary
[edit]DescriptionHyundai Genesis BH330 (Korea Domestic) (5460811958).jpg |
The biggest automotive story of 2008 (in both South Korea and North America): Hyundai enters the premium luxury car segment with the rear-wheel-drive Genesis. The domestic Genesis does not get any Hyundai badging at all, but a unique "Genesis" wing logo, as shown here. Due to similarities to the wing logos of Bentley and MINI, Hyundai chose not to use the wing logo on export models, to eliminate the possibility of legal disputes. Among North American owners, the wing badge has become a popular retrofit. The domestic Genesis is available in two trim levels: BH330 (3.3L) and BH380 (3.8L). The V8 versions were initially strictly for export only, though eventually Hyundai later introduced the limited domestic-market only Genesis Prada edition that includes the V8. The Genesis is sold at standard Hyundai showrooms, but by dedicated sales personnel in a dedicated section, and authorized Hyundai service centers employ dedicated service staff just for Genesis owners. The blue foam door guards are installed at the factory to protect the vehicle from damage during shipping, until delivery to the customer. Most South Koreans keep the foam guards on even after delivery, as tight parking spots make dings more common otherwise. The Genesis, as impressive as it was, did not seduce me at first. But three months later, I would find myself taking delivery of my own Genesis in Los Angeles, replacing a BMW 3-series I could no longer stand. |
