Description

Hyundai's 5th Generation Elantra, chassis code MD. This particular example is an early 2013 year model.

The Elantra was the winner of the 2012 North American Car of the Year Award; it was the second Hyundai to win the award, after the 2009 Genesis.

For the 2013 model year, the Elantra has a hefty price increase, though there is enough standard equipment increase to more than make up for it. But an Elantra that is priced over $24,000 (this is the fully loaded example, with leather, navigation, and far more) still doesn't quite sound right.

While Hyundai's US manufacturing facility in Montgomery, Alabama, handles the assembly of many Elantras, this example is from Hyundai's main assembly plant in Ulsan. US-assembled Elantras tend to be the base GLS model, with a few very popular configurations, often intended for rental fleets, or markets in eastern US; on the West Coast, shipping costs for an Asian car may not vary as significantly whether it's built in the Bible Belt or in Asia (plus West Coast motorists do find foreign-assembled vehicles more attractive). At this dealership in Southern California, most Elantras are Korean-built Limiteds; the few base-model GLSs tend to be from Alabama, as are Certified Pre-Owned Elantras which normally are ex-rental GLSs.
