Text Appearing Before Image: M. S—, æt. 16, was admitted under Professor Carl Braun, who was kind enough to supply the following information with regard to the case: "The patient was a virgin. The catamenia commenced in November 1867, when she was fourteen years of age. Up to the end of April 1868, the breasts were quite small. In the course of the next two months, they attained the size shown in Fig. 15, then for some months became much smaller, but in October of the same year, they again rapidly increased to their former dimensions. The base of the left breast measured 23 inches in circumference. The measurement from the lower edge of the third rib, at the attachment of the breast to the nipple was 10 3/4 inches; the transverse measurement 9 inches. The circumference of the base of the right breast was 19 1/2 inches. From the third rib to the nipple 9 3/4 inches, the transverse diameter 8 1/2. The measurements were taken when the breasts were hanging down. Two years later we heard that the breasts diminished considerably in size during the winter and the spring, and the patient was able to do light work without difficulty. In the course of the summer, however, they again reached the size which they had on her previous admission. She refused to stay in hospital." Fig. 15.—Hypertrophy of the Breasts.

Text Appearing After Image: (It is noticeable that in this case, if we may judge by the illustration the nipples are situated at the lower part of the hypertrophied breasts, and not, as it usually found in this affection, directed upwards towards the clavicle.
