DescriptionHydrogen-powered bus Covent Garden.jpg |
English: A First London bus, a 2003 Mercedez-Benz Citaro single-deck fuel cell bus near Covent Garden.
This bus is one of the first three hydrogen-powered 'fuel cell' buses, on trial on service RV1 from Covent Garden to Tower Gateway. The bus produces no harmful emissions, the only exhaust gas is steam. It is also very quiet in operation, for it is essentially an electric bus that generates its own electricity from the fusion of hydrogen and oxygen to make water. Mayor Ken Livingstone aims to have a large number of these vehicles in service if these trials are successful. |
