Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Reactants may need to pre-assemble into transient precursor states before electron transfer, and products may be formed in transient successor states. The upper figure sketches the common scenario in which rates are dominated by the electron-transfer step, but it is possible that the rate controlling step instead involves the precursor or successor states, as suggested by the lower figure.
