Summary
[edit]DescriptionHurricane Lee is moving through the Atlantic Ocean (Copernicus).jpg |
English: Hurricane Lee formed in the Atlantic Ocean at the beginning of September 2023. Before being lowered to category 3, Lee surprised scientists on 5 September by intensifying at a rate double the one defined as “rapid intensification” by the US National Hurricane Centre’s . The hurricane grew from Category 1 to Category 5 in just 24 hours. Lee’s wind speed increased by 130 km/h on 7 September, to then drop just as quickly in only a few hours. One of the Copernicus Sentinel-3 satellites captured this image of the storm on 8 September as it was moving north of the Lesser Antilles region. Data from images acquired by Copernicus Sentinel-3 improve our understanding of atmospheric composition and dynamics and provide important inputs for climate research and weather forecasting. |
