Description
English: Only three Category 5 hurricanes have impacted the U.S.: The Labor Day 1935 storm, Hurricane Camille in 1969, and Hurricane Andrew. This image from the GOES-7 satellite shows the storm at its peak intensity on August 23, 1992 before making landfall near Homestead, FL. With over $40 billion in damages, the storm was the second costliest in U.S. history. (Impact and damage statistics as of 2009).
