le brought there for sale onmarket days is not to be equalled in any other place. Itis quite a sight to be here at fair-time, and to witness thebusy life of the people. Here we see cartloads containinglarge displays of the finest sheepskin Bundás and nationaluniforms, evidently intended for sale amongst the Csikós(cowboys) and peasants. There, furiously driving along,comes the Kúpecz (peasant merchant), carrying perhaps oneor two thousand pounds in his pocket I Here carts ladenwith various kinds of poultry come towards us: the cacklingand crowing and quacking make a confused babel of sound.There a large flock of cows pass by, their fine white hornsglittering in the sun. Their lowing is interrupted by thebaa of herds of sheep just arriving. Stop ! Here trampteams of horses and colts, driven and ridden by numbers ofCsikós. The clacking of their whips echoes in the air.They all wend their way towards the plains just outside thetown, where enormous tents and huts are being erected for

Here, on theseplains, which only yesterday were utterly barren, thousandsand thousands of tents and huts have sprung up, wherea large quantity of peasant costumes and all kinds ofdress and material for dress are exhibited, and whereboots, hats, ornaments, agricultural implements, and everyimaginable article are offered for sale in great variety; whilerows upon rows of tents give the people refreshment anddrinks of every description. One must have been an eye-witness of the scene in order to be able to picture theenormous amount of people who flock to the fair. Whata novel and picturesque sight it is !
