. Whiteheads tor-pedo factory are under consideration. The contract between the dual Governmentsand the Austro-Hungarian Lloyd SteamshipCompany having been renewed two years agounder rather onerous terms for the Lloyd, theGovernment subvention having been reducedowing to the opposition of the Hungarian Go-vernment, the Company has found itself reducedto considerable financial straits, which impelledit to invoke further Government aid, in orderto prevent a financial catastrophe which wasimpending. The Hungarian Government hasrefused to increase its share of the subvention. The Government contract has now beencancelled, as far as Hungary is concerned,. and the Lloyd reconstructed as a purelyAustrian concern under Government super-vision. Hitherto the Lloyd contract was oneof the dual questions under the management ofthe Ministry for Foreign Affairs, but has nowceased to be as such. The separate agreementof the Lloyd with Hungary would comprise theLevantine postal services as heretofore.

The Government sub-vention to the **Adria will be raised to 50,000/.,or thereabouts. The Adria fleet, now con-sisting of ten steamers, is to be raised to thirtywithin the next two years, and the presentregular services are to be considerably ex-tended. Eventually the fleet is to be raised tothirty steamers. The new steamers have beenpurchased in England at Wigham, Richardson& Co., Newcastle-on-Tyne. CiRQUENIZZA is a seaside place on the Hungarian-Croatian coast, not far from Fiume. Itis said to be sheltered, and to offer theelementary attributes such as to favour theestablishment of a health resort for invalidssimilar in character to Abbázia. H.I.H.
