Description
English: This profile was photographed in the Byumba region of Rwanda, Africa. The site is on a 7 percent slope at an altitude of 1,206 meters. The soil is formed in shale with some quartzite. The site was fallow but an Ap horizon of 25 cm is present. Clay content is quite uniform, 41 to 48 percent in all horizons. Organic carbon content is 6 percent in the Ap horizon decreasing to 1.75 percent at a depth of 112 cm. Aluminum saturation is over 80 percent of CEC in all horizons and base saturation is less than 7 percent in all horizons. Water pH values range from 4 to 4.5 in all horizons. (Red and white squares on the tape are each 5 cm.)
