There is, perhaps, but one way for a person to resist black-mail, and free himself or herself from its effects and consequences,and that is to take a firm, positive and decided stand at the verybeginning, repelling the first pressure brought to bear upon them,and refusing to even compromise or yield a point that may, inthe future, be used against them-
