Nederlands: De huipil is een eenvoudig rechthoekig, mouwloos kledingstuk dat de schouders en een deel van de armen bedekt en in de lengte tot op de heupen kan vallen, maar elders tot aan de enkels reikt. In het Mixteeks wordt de huipil ook wel ‘Shiku lestu’ genoemd. Met het dragen ervan worden vele aspecten van het sociale leven tot uiting gebracht.
De huipil bestaat uit drie losse stroken die geweven zijn van handgesponnen wit katoen in linnenbinding. Op de plaats waar de drie losse banen aan elkaar zijn gezet, bevindt zich een dik, rood lint. Het lint is een Europese invloed, oorspronkelijk zou hier alleen een randa werk op zitten. Naast het lint bevindt zich wel smal randa werk, maar dit dient niet voor de afwerking van de verbinding van de banen. De armopening is omzoomd met feston steek in verschillende kleuren. Het onderste deel van de achterkant van de middelste baan is gerepareerd met een stukje wit katoen. De huipil is versierd met verschillende soorten bloemmotieven in kleuren blauw - rood - geel - groen - oranje en paars, zigzag- en driehoek motieven. De bloemmotieven staan voor de vrouwelijkheid en de zigzag en driehoek motieven staan voor vruchtbaarheid. De nek opening is afgewerkt met groen garen. Op de schouders is een band met zigzag motief in verschillende kleuren te vinden. Dimensions: L: 81 cm W: 88 cm Description: Handspun white cotton, plain weave. Red warp stripes on edges on central panel. Panels joined with multi-coloured 'randa' work. Multi-coloured blanket stitch around arm opening. Lower part of central back panel has been repaired with a piece of plain white cotton (13x30 cm). All over garment brocaded cross bands of multi-coloured geometrical and floral designs. Upper part of central panel on front and back brocaded all over with multi-coloured geometrical and floral designs. Neck opening is finished with green yarn. Bands of multi-coloured zigzag on shoulders. Used with gathered cotton skirt of commercial material, made with flounces. Provenience: Arroyo Prieto, Gro. |
