Summary
[edit]DescriptionHugh llewelyn 551 (5963627488).jpg | Chicago & Illinois Midland RR "F-4" Class 2-8-2 No.551, 3 of which were built by Lima in 1928-31 and which were withdrawn 1955, at the National Museum of Transport, St Louis, 8/70. These were of the standard USRA Light Mikado design, which was built in greater numbers than any other USRA deisgn, 635 being built 1918-20 and allocated to 17 railroads including 100 for the Baltimore & Ohio RR and 95 for the NYC RR. So popular was this design that after the USRA programme ended, 641 locos to similar or slightly modified designs were built for many railroads. In addition, many other Mikado designs were influenced by it. | |||||||||||||
