Summary

[edit]
Description LNER Gresley Class "V2" 2-6-2 No.4771 (later No.800; BR No.60800) in LNER Apple Green livery - interestingly, though averyone seems to refer to the LNER green livery as "Apple Green" in fact LNER railway men referred to it as Grass Green as it was the same livery as the GNR's. Officially, it was called "Light Standard Green"! Also, the tone and shade of the green when the locos were outshopped at Darlington was different to that on locos from Doncaster! The former works also painted the cylinder covers green whilst Doncaster painted them black. A very successful mixed traffic design, the "V2"s were sometimes called "the engines that won the war" such was their prodigious hauling capacity and ability to fulfill anything asked of them - passenger of freight. At Barrow Hill, 04/12.
