English: A total of 24 incoming members of the House of Representatives in the 19th Congress completed on Wednesday the three-day Executive Course on Legislation that oriented them on their role and function. The course was organized by the House, in partnership with the University of the Philippines-National College of Administration and Governance (UP-NCPAG) Center for Policy and Executive Development (CPED). In his congratulatory remarks to the lawmakers composing Batch 1, House Secretary-General Mark Llandro Mendoza said the course would not only enhance them in their work, but also expand their way of helping people. “Lalo pong lalawak ang pagtulong ninyo lalo na po sa pag-create ng mga batas na kailangan po ng bansa natin,” he said. Legislative Information Resources Management Department Deputy Secretary-General Dr. Edgardo Pangilinan expressed hope that in future conduct of the executive course, some of the lawmakers would be invited as resource speakers. Rep. Wilter Palma (1st District, Zamboanga Sibugay), in giving his course reflections in behalf of Batch 1, thanked the House leadership and the Secretariat, as well as the UP-NCPAG for the learning opportunity given to them. UP-NCPAG Dean Dan Saguil and Secretary-General Mendoza awarded the certificates to the lawmakers. Earlier in the day, Rep. Jesus Crispin Remulla (7th District Cavite), the incoming Secretary of the Department of Justice, and Dr. Edna Estifania Co, former UP-NCPAG dean, tackled the topic “Citizen Engagement, Constituencies, and Advocacy.” Remulla, the senior deputy majority leader in the 18th Congress, said the House is the best place to learn and that being a lawmaker is the best job for the participants. Meanwhile, Information and Communications Technology Service Director Julius Gorospe tackled Basic Cybersecurity while UP College of Mass Communication Associate Dean Dr. Rachel Khan discussed “Engaging with Traditional and Social Media.” Lastly, the lawmakers held a mock session at the Belmonte Hall. |
