Summary
[edit]DescriptionHowqua River tunnel bend panorama.jpg |
English: Howqua River, Howqua Hills Historic Park, Victoria, Australia. The opening to a tunnel is on the far right. Gold miners dug this tunnel about 100 metres through the rock of the spur, and then built a water race along the contour of the hills to carry water 4 km to a 63 foot water wheel which powered crushing and milling equipment at the Howqua United gold treatment works at Sheepyard Flat (near the location of Fry's Hut). It was built in 1884, during the Victorian gold rush. |
