Summary
[edit]DescriptionHowick Hall - geograph.org.uk - 1187776.jpg |
English: Howick Hall Seen from the south-west. Howick has been in the ownership of the Grey family since the 14th century. The Hall was built in 1782, but comprehensively redesigned and rebuilt in 1928 following a disastrous fire. The Greys were a famous family of military men and politicians, the most renowned of whom was the 2nd Earl Grey who became Prime Minister in 1830. The family gave their name to "Earl Grey" tea.
The Hall is not open to the public, but the extensive gardens and arboretum are a popular visitor attraction. http://www.howickhallgardens.org.uk/index.asp |
