Description

Makkabäerschrein St. Andreas Köln


Der aus vergoldeten Kupferplatten gefertigte Makkabäerschrein, der der Überlieferung nach Reliquien der sieben heiligen Makkabäerbrüder und ihrer Mutter Salome (2 Makk 7 EU) beinhalten soll, stammt aus dem 16. Jahrhundert und hat das Aussehen einer Kirche. Auf den rund 40 Reliefs sind Szenen aus dem Martyrium der Makkabäer und ihrer Mutter Salome zu erkennen, die parallel zur Passion Christi und seiner Mutter Maria gesetzt werden (beispielsweise die Geißelung der Makkabäerbrüder und die von Christus). An den Ecken des Daches sind die vier Evangelisten in zeitgenössischer Humanisten-Tracht dargestellt: Matthäus, Johannes, Lukas und Markus und an den Eckpfeilern Figuren von Christus, Helena, Maria und einem Priester.
