  • Subjects (LCSH): Dwellings--Washington (State)--Seattle; Sixth Avenue (Seattle, Wash.)

This building is actually the old First Church of Christ Scientist, it was never a private residence. This was their first standalone church, the congregation having previously held meetings in the Holyoke Block and Unitarian Church on 7th Avenue. Built in 1901, this unique Sullivanesque frame building, of which the architect is unknown, was used by the Christian Scientists until 1909 when they built a new church on Capitol Hill, now apartments and a city landmark. This building was later used as a rentable hall, known as Central Hall and later the Rosicrucian Fellowship Hall, around the time that this photograph was taken. It was razed sometime in the early 1920s; replaced by a small gas station and service garage. The entire block would be obliterated for the construction of I-5.
