Description Harry Houdini as he appeared bound in chains before jumping off the Canal Street Ferry wharf, New Orleans, into the Mississippi River, 17 November 1907. According to the New Orleans Picayune coverage the following day, after he arose from the water unchained Houdini remarked “That’s an awful river. The worst I have ever been in.”
